About Me

I have worked with children and young people for over 25 years. Where there is concern about a very young person in the family I often work with parents. About half my practice is supporting adults in 1-1 therapy. I welcome individuals of any age to get in touch.

I was drawn to this work partly because of my own experiences as a young person growing up, and now as a mother of two children. I trained at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education and I find what I do very rewarding.

In my studio in Oxford, I offer a safe, empathic space within which people of all ages can open up and make sense of their feelings and life circumstances. I have learnt there are many reasons to ask for help and that nothing is too big or small. I am passionate about helping young people, individuals and families to feel better so that they can move forward and thrive.

Finding a therapist can feel like a big step. I encourage you to get in touch for an informal chat about how I might be able to help.

Using the Arts

In my therapy room, I have art materials, such as paint, clay, musical instruments and a sand tray. Using the arts can help my clients communicate their feelings when they can’t find the words, or to make sense of their experiences.

What if I don’t like doing art ?

Working with image and metaphor is an option alongside talking.  We use images to deepen the conversation, not to make beautiful art. I will always listen to what my clients prefer.

Experience

I have worked as a child and adolescent psychotherapist in mainstream schools – both primary and secondary – and in private practice. I have extensive experience in special education supporting permanently excluded children and complex cases. For many years I have facilitated parent groups in schools and privately. About half my clients are adults in one-to-one therapy.

My clients experience a range of challenges which include difficult family relationships, a debilitatingly low self-confidence, bullying and friendship related issues, social phobia, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma and loss. They may also have issues related to diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or they may self-harm or have an eating disorder.

I hold an up to date DBS Certificate and I have professional civil liability insurance. An accredited clinical supervisor oversees my work.
